How to Locate Your Android Phone with Google Find My Device?

Smartphones have become an irreplaceable part of our daily lives. Losing a mobile phone can really hit you badly as you can't do anything without it. It can get dropped out of your pocket or stolen. In case you are using an Android phone, then you can track your phone using the "Find my device" feature.

This feature depends on two things being enabled. The first thing is the feature and the other one is Google location services. Additionally, you need to keep your phone turned on and you need to sign into your Google account. 

The Find My Device feature is a part of the standard OS on Pixels and many other Android devices. Generally, this feature is turned on by default. You may find that some Android models may provide a different app. Some Samsung phones have their own Find My Mobile app. If you wish to use Google's find my device, then you must check if it is a part of your phone's Android version. 

Locate Your Android Phone with Google Find My Device

Step 1: First of all, go to Settings and then select Security. After that, search for the Find My Device option. 

Step 2: In case the app is listed but it is turned off, then select it and then finally turn it on. 

Step 3: If you don't have the Google app but wish to use it instead of the app that the manufacturer installed. If you wish to use the Android tab instead of the laptop to find your phone, then go to the Play Store and install the Find My Device app of Google. 

Then, you need to check whether the location is enabled or not. 

Step 4: Navigate to the settings of your phone and then search for the location. It will say right below the header when it is on or off. 

Step 5: If you find that it is off, then select the location and then turn it on. 

Step 6: After that, you can check all the apps that have access to your location and the ones that have used it recently. In case you want to fine-tune your setting, then you must select the app location permission in order to tweak the permission settings. 

Find Your Phone

Now, you are ready to find your phone, If you are not able to find your phone, then go to the search page of Google and then enter "Find my device". After that, you are going to see a list of devices you've registered on Google. Select the one that you wish to find. 

Then, you will reach the find my device page. This will show the name of your phone, the last time it was pinged, and current battery power. Now, your Google map will display where your phone is located. 

After you locate your device, there are a few options, are listed on the left side of your screen. What you select depends on whether the device is in a safe location or not. 

  • You must make your device play a sound for 5 minutes and you will easily be able to locate it. 
  • Lock your device and then sign out of your Google account. This will keep your data safe when you receive it. 
  • In case your device is non-retrievable or stolen, then you must erase the device as you won't be able to find it after that. By erasing your device, your content will get deleted from it.
